  • Project Update

Hello today I will be updating you of all the projects that I have been working on so far in my classes. First I have almost finished my logo for the 2024 portfolio show and will star working on flyer designer for that next week. Then I am also starting work on a Promotional video to promote myself for future employers the video has to be between two to three minutes and that will be completed in the next few months. Finally we are setting things up so that we can print our magazines that we had created last semester and we will start printing them starting hopefully next week if everything is ready. As you can see I am hard at work to get these project done and ready for this years portfolio show.

  • Promotional Videos

This we were asked to look up promotional videos for a person or company and what I have learned is that the videos are very fast paced they are barley 30 seconds long most of the time so you have to get the information in quick or pause the video when you see something like a phone number or email.

Here are a few examples I have looked up online of promotional videos

  • Plans for this semester

This semester is heavily focused on getting things ready for the SouthEast Tech portfolio show we will have to design posters, envelopes, invites, guest books, and table tents for the event then we vote on the one that is best liked out of the class. Then we work on our personal portfolios to make sure there ready for the show on April 25th were we show our work and meet several different companies from the media industry to find possible employment.

This semester is going to be very busy but I will rise to the challenge and face it

  • Learning about me

I have always loved to create anything from drawing, creative writing, or building with Legos. I enjoy making my things. My love of being creative started the way it does with most kids through books or TV; specifically for me, it was the Spiderman movies from the early 2000s. It is what inspired me to create my designs and characters. Since then, I have always loved to create anything that is different or stands out. Then, during my last semester of high school, I decided I wanted to have a career in media. I enjoyed creating graphics, editing videos, and working with the computer. That class also set me on the path to my goal of a career in graphic design. To help me with that goal, one of my teachers suggested I take a CTE class to learn more about the industry and technology used. After that class, I decided to go to Southeast Tech to get my degree in Media Design technology.

I have learned and grown both in my skills as a designer and person. Some advice I would give is first never to give up and to keep creating, take criticism with an open mind and use it to help you improve, and finally, what is most important is to find a mentor. I found my mentor while working at an internship for SDSU through an extension site called Women in Science. I worked on updating the media on their website and YouTube channel. Clear communication helped us perform well; we understood what was needed for the projects we worked on and what needed to be done. My mentor gave me sound advice and suggestions, allowing me the freedom to work independently on tasks, which showed an incredible amount of trust.
Finding a mentor is a great way to grow your skills and connections with those in your field.

My last advice is never to let anyone tell you that you are not good; everyone has something they are good at; they need to find it.

  • Laser Engraving

For the last few weeks I have been learning about laser engraving and how tha machine works.

Laser engraving machines are used when speed and high precision are required. For example, electronic components, medical components, promo gadgets, jewelry, automotive parts, plastic buttons, hydraulics, tags and so on. The laser spot is so thin that allows us to focus precisely on microscopic surfaces.

Laser engraving works by using a focused beam of light (the spot) to mark the surface of a material. When the beam interacts with the material’s surface, it alters the material’s properties and appearance. This concentrated beam targets only a specified area, allowing the laser engraving machine to create precise, high quality, high-contrast marks that are easy to read or scan on virtually any surface. This feature makes laser engraving ideal for applications where accuracy and permanency are critical to success.

  • Issues related to style part 2

Choosing the right face is another way of selecting the right type for a design. The first thing to consider is whether the people who see the font can read it. Then there are all the other things to consider: does this type work with the design? Does it work for the message that is trying to be shared? Is it the right style or color? These are all the same things that apply to the other parts of the design, like images or logos. Then, we also have how that type is used for the demographic, which affects the type to consider using. For example, say this design is for people in their 80s, then the design might want to use a font in the old style class or slab serif, and I suggested these two because when
looking for examples, most examples of old-style fonts look like they’re designed for an older audience, which helps prove that specific fonts appeal to particular demographics and that fonts are just as important as the images used within a design.

Finally, we have combining type styles. This goes deeper into what I was saying about how a certain font can be in two different groups. Now, there are plenty of reasons to combine type styles. For example, say you have a type where the lines are very thin; then you would want to combine it with a font type with thicker lines. That way, it makes it easier to read. Now, many different combinations can be made from working within the six groups of typefaces, but when it comes to combining, the font has to adhere to the limitations that are involved with the context of typefaces, which means that the combination that is created has to be relevant and recognizable which means that it is a current form of type and that it is legible. Then there is also the history of the font. Combining older fonts with newer fonts is a way to make the fonts more modern and current, which means they will also be more relevant.

  • Issues related to style

What are issues related to style? Well, this is something where the styles involve the type used in the design, and as I said before, type is an important part of the design because it communicates the ad’s message to the viewer. Now, this topic is broken up into three sections: style classifications, choosing the right face, which means choosing the right kind of type to use, and finally, combining type styles. I will review the details of these three topics, explaining how these are used with type and fonts within a design.

First, we have style classifications, which mean taking different kinds of typefaces and grouping them into categories based on the size and shape of the type, which is grouped into six different categories: old-style, transitional, modern, sans serif, slab serif, and graphic. Creating the groups makes it easier for designers to identify the type being used based on what class it belongs to, which creates better communication with typographic designers. Now, classifying is more challenging than you might think because certain types belong to more than one group so the grouping system could be better. As I said before, the system has created better ways of communication, and that is considered an improvement for most designers.
